Studio Music Videos
Drew Allen is a British singer-songwriter from Bournemouth, Dorset. His management approached us and required two studio-based music videos. We filmed the two music videos, Show Me A Little Mercy and Holborn Avenue over one day of filming.
To build an idea as to what the client liked we used mulitple reference music videos. After showing Drew the video we gained an idea of what Drew liked we expanded on this, both in production and style.
First of all, the style of filming. The idea is based around a group of musicians playing music together in an intimate location. The wall colour, guitars and clothes all complimented each other to give a red mood to the videos. We added fairy lights and candles to form a bokeh to the background of the shots. Such a simple idea really brought another element to the shots.
With the production, we filmed a number of takes at different angles. We wanted to give the idea of a live performance and everyone playing together. The video was shot a Blackmagic Cinema 4K Camera. Our key lens was the Canon 85mm f/1.2. This lens gave us amazing depth of field, really exagerating the size of the bokeh from the candles. For the wider shots we used our Canon 24mm-70mm f/2.8.
Drew now uses these videos to promote his music, which you can find more information about here: www.ddallen.com
